Whether you are an existing Sohodox customer or are evaluating Sohodox currently as part of the 30 day Free Trial, you may have some questions in your mind about upgrading to Version 7. In this blog post, we will answer some such questions.
If you are currently evaluating Sohodox
If you are currently evaluating Sohodox, you can carry on with the evaluation. When you purchase Sohodox licenses, you will need to download and install the upgrade setup for Version 7 and apply the registration key that you receive. Meanwhile, if you wish to experience the new version, you can update your setup. (Please refer to the note at the end of this post, before you proceed.)

Why should I upgrade to Version 7 of Sohodox?
Sohodox 7 adds a handful of new features and comes with performance enhancements in the product that make it an even more efficient tool to manage your documents. Check out the full list of new features in Sohodox 7.
Will upgrading to version 7 erase my existing data?
No! When you upgrade to version 7, you will have to download the upgrade setup, install it and run it. The upgrade setup will upgrade your Sohodox DB but not touch your data. This means you do not lose your data. In fact, Sohodox 7 will help you manage that data even more efficiently than before.
How do I upgrade to version 7?
That depends on whether your upgrade and support period of 1 year is currently on or it has ended. If the upgrade and support period is currently on, you simply need to download and install the upgrade setup, run it, restart Sohodox and continue using it as usual. However, if your upgrade and support period has come to an end, you will need to purchase Upgrade and Support licenses – as many as the number of Sohodox licenses you own. Once you purchase the Upgrade and Support licenses, we will email you the registration key and the link to download the upgrade setup. You can then download and install the upgrade setup, run it, restart Sohodox and continue using it as usual. It’s that simple! (Whether your upgrade and support period of 1 year is currently on or not, please refer to the note at the end of this post, before you proceed.)
What are the steps to update my Sohodox installation?
Below are the 6 simple steps to update to Version 7:
- Take a backup of all your DBs before upgrading to the latest version.
- Make sure that Sohodox is not running on any of the machines when running the upgrade setup.
- Start upgrading Sohodox on the machine on which it is installed in the Server mode.
- Once the upgrade setup is installed on the server machine, make sure that you start Sohodox once.
- The first time you login after installing the update setup, you will need to login as the superadmin user so that the MainDB gets upgraded to the latest version.
- Once this is done, make sure you install the update on all the Client machines individually.
That’s it! Once you have carried out the steps above, you are ready to use Sohodox 7 to manage your documents even more efficiently than before!
What if I do not choose to upgrade to version 7?
You can still carry on using Sohodox as usual, but you would not be able to use the new features in Sohodox 7 which could help you manage your documents even better. Also, in case you faced an issue requiring support from our side, one of the first things we would ask you to do would be to upgrade your version to the latest one. Often, that by itself is sufficient to resolve the issue. So it is always beneficial to keep your Sohodox updated to the latest version.
My Upgrade and Support period ended on or before 28th Feb 2011. I want to upgrade to Sohodox 7. How can I do so?
If your upgrade and support period came to an end on or before 28th Feb 2011, you will need to purchase as many Upgrade and Support licenses as the number of Sohodox licenses you own. Once you purchase the Upgrade and Support licenses, we will email you the registration key and the link to download the upgrade setup. You can then download and install the upgrade setup, run it, restart Sohodox and continue using it as usual. It’s that simple! Purchase Upgrade and Support Packs now!
Note for both – existing customers as well as users evaluating Sohodox:
Please do not use the full setup to update an existing installation of Sohodox. Also you must not uninstall an existing version and attempt to install the latest version of Sohodox using the Full Setup. This will not work.
