Upgrade setup blocks upgrading to version 9 if your MainDB is MS Access based
Older versions of Sohodox use an MS Access based MainDB. However since the release of SOHODOX version 9, we highly recommend that you use MS SQL Server 2012 Express Edition (available free) as the database for SOHODOX. Therefore before upgrading to version 9, you must…
- Download and install MS SQL Server 2012 Express Edition as per these instructions.
- After this you must download and install the SOHODOX Update Setup. This will upgrade your installation to version 9.1 and also convert your current MS Access based SOHODOX DB to MS SQL Server Express. Instructions for this are here.
Below are changes to features that you will see in version 9 of Sohodox:
- Sohodox Server
Sohodox Server is a service which runs in the background on the machine on which Sohodox is installed in Server mode. The Server needs to be running for Sohodox Desktop Client and all other modules including the Sohodox Mobile App to work.- Upgrading Sohodox on the server machine
By default the Sohodox Server is configured to listen on port 5511. If you change this port while installing the upgrade setup then you must ensure that the firewall is configured to allow connections on this port. - Upgrading Sohodox on the client machine
While installing the upgrade setup on the client machine, you must enter the URL of the machine on which Sohodox Server is installed along with the port it is listening on. For example, if Sohodox server is installed on a machine named MACHINE1 having IP address 192.168.0.2 and listening on port 5511 then you can enter the URL of the Server in the setup as…

Starting from Sohodox version 9, users will not be logged out of Sohodox when they close the Sohodox Desktop Client. This is done so that the Sohodox Apps that are installed on the machine keep running even when Sohodox Desktop Client closes.
If you would like to change this behavior, you can do so in the Options dialog in the Sohodox Desktop Client. You can configure Sohodox to…
* Always logout
* Never logout
